NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Supports Re-introduction of Ohio Prevention First Act

Posted: 09/29/2009

Group urges the Ohio House and Senate to pass this commonsense common ground bill during this legislative session.

Columbus, OH— Today, Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, joined Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) and State Representative Tyrone Yates (D-Cincinnati) at a capitol press conference as they announced the re-introduction of the Ohio Prevention First Act into Ohio House and Senate.

"Unfortunately this is the third time this legislation has had to be introduced, and the women of Ohio are still waiting for legislative action. Fortunately, Ohio House of Representatives is now under new leadership and we finally expect to see legislative action and votes on the bill. We look forward to working with members of the legislature as the bill moves through the process.” Copeland said. “We would also like to thank the sponsors of this bill for their unwavering commitment and continued leadership in advancing this thoughtful legislation that people on both sides of the choice debate should support.”

The Ohio Prevention First Act is a comprehensive bill that would help women and couples prevent unintended pregnancy. It ensures that insurance companies cover birth control just like other prescription medications, improves women's access to emergency contraception, and ensures our students receive comprehensive, medically accurate sex education, among other things.
