NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Applauds Introduction of Consensus Legislation into the Senate
Group pledges to work with lawmakers to advance commonsense policies that would prevent unintended pregnancies Columbus, OH— Today, Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, joined Senator Sue Morano (D-Lorain), Senate Democratic Leader Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) and State Representative Tyrone Yates (D-Cincinnati) at a capitol press conference to announce the introduction of the Ohio Prevention First Act into Ohio Senate.
"Ohioans want our lawmakers to end the divisive attacks on privacy and reproductive health care and unite behind a solution-oriented agenda," Copeland said. "The Prevention First Act gives legislators an opportunity to focus on commonsense ways to prevent unintended pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion. We thank the sponsors of this bill for their unwavering commitment and leadership in advancing this thoughtful legislation that people on both sides of the choice debate should support."
The Ohio Prevention First Act contains policies that would help women and couples prevent unintended pregnancy – which would reduce the need for abortion. It increases funds for family-planning services, ensures that insurance companies cover birth control just like other prescription medications, and improves women’s access to emergency contraception, among other things. Reps. Tyrone Yates (D-Cincinnati) and Jon Peterson (R- Delaware) are sponsoring identical legislation in the House.
