NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Praises Passage of Adoption Tax Credit Legislation
Columbus, OH—Today Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, applauded the Ohio House’s passage of Amended Senate Bill 20 by a vote of 97 to 0. Earlier this month, the Ohio Senate also passed this bill by unanimous vote. The bill sponsored by Senator Patricia Clancy (R-Cincinnati) will increase the state income tax credit from $500 to $1,500 per child for families who choose to grow their families through adoption. “The passage of this bill sends a clear message to Ohioans that the decision to bring an adopted child into your family is one that the Ohio Legislature fully supports,” Copeland said. “Our organization strongly supported this bill and will continue to work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to put forth legislation that supports all Ohio families, improves women’s health options, and protects private, personal decision making. That is a goal we should all agree upon, and one that we can achieve together.” Copeland continued, “NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio’s mission is to support and protect, as a fundamental right and value, a woman’s freedom to make decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.”
