New Legislation to Ban Abortion in Ohio
ANTI-CHOICE LEGISLATION THREATENS WOMEN’S CHOICES AND LIVES Cleveland, OH- NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, the state’s leading advocate for personal privacy and a woman’s right to choose, today expressed outrage at legislation to be introduced by Rep. Tom Brinkman which would prohibit all abortions without exception. “This legislation specifically excludes exceptions for rape, incest, and most importantly to protect the life and health of the woman. This legislation is purposefully unconstitutional and its intention is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade. A challenge that could succeed if President Bush is able to add just two new anti-choice judges to the Supreme Court,” said Kellie Copeland, Executive Director NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. “Instead of working to introduce legislation to protect women’s health, Rep. Brinkman is planning to introduce legislation that will endanger women’s lives,” continued Copeland. “By outlawing abortion you force women into the hands of back alley butchers. This is just another in a long line of attacks from the extreme right wing of the Ohio State Legislature. Pro-Choice Ohioans must stand up and resist this attack on our rights.” According to a news release, requests for co-sponsors have been issued but no date has been set for introduction.
