10K Run To Highlight Reproductive Rights Struggle In Ohio
Pro-Choice OHIOANS “RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES” 10K Run To Highlight Reproductive Rights Struggle In Ohio Cleveland, OH-Reproductive rights in Ohio is fighting an uphill battle. That’s why Sheryl Banks, chair of the outreach committee for the state’s leading reproductive rights organization NARAL Pro-choice Ohio, along with other pro-choice activists will dramatize that uphill battle by “Running for Our Lives.” The 10k run on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at 9 a.m., begins and ends in the Coventry neighborhood of Cleveland Heights (in front of the plaza at the 2700 block of Euclid Heights Blvd. near Coventry Blvd.). Participants in the run will face their own uphill battle by tackling Cedar and Fairmount Hills in University Circle and the Cedar-Fairmount area. “Ohio has one of the worst reproductive rights records in the country and I am running to shed light on this record” said Banks. “Insurance companies in Ohio are not required to cover prescription birth control like they cover other prescriptions, the legislature is considering a bill that would allow pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control pills and emergency contraception based solely on their personal moral beliefs, and the Ohio House is poised to pass a bill that would create “Choose Life” license plates with proceeds going to fund Crisis Pregnancy Centers that give women incomplete information about their reproductive choices. I am running to protect the health and lives of women in our state.” NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director, Kellie Copeland said, “As the political arm of the pro-choice movement NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is running on Sunday for Ohioans rights to comprehensive family planning services and against the politicization of health care. We invite everyone to “Run for Our Lives” to ensure that the women in Ohio receive the best medical care available without interference from the state legislature.” For more information, or to participate in the run, call Kellie Copeland at (330) 524-1577, or (216) 283-2180, or Sheryl Banks at (216) 965-4590.
