Truck's owner claims he knows truth about Ted

Modified: 10/09/2006

Display against Strickland shows fetuses, gay couple
By LOREN GENSON
Chillicothe Gazette Staff Writer

"Ted's Truth Truck" made a stop Thursday in downtown Chillicothe blasting Ted Strickland's pro-choice abortion policy with a graphic display of an aborted fetus.

The truck also shows a picture of two married men and proclaims "Strickland supports homosexual unions."

The truck's tour was organized by Mark Harrington, field director for Christians for Social Justice. Harrington said he understands many people are offended by his truck's graphic display.
"I'm not out to make friends," Harrington, of Columbus, said. "Images of abortion are important in the debate because many people are confused about what abortion is. We would rather have people be angry with us, but hate abortion."

The truck calls to question Strickland's former role as a Methodist minister and claims his voting record does not support his religion.

Some think Harrington's tactics are out of line, including Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio.

"I think it's a low blow to question someone else's faith," Copeland said. "The truth about Ted is that if you care about stopping abortion, you have to care about pregnancy prevention first, not hateful rhetoric."

Strickland is a man of faith, and the message of the truth about Ted is simply unfair Copeland said.
