Most ERs don't offer 'morning after' pill
An Ohio abortion-rights organization yesterday released a study criticizing the vast majority of hospital emergency rooms in the state that do not routinely provide "morning after" emergency contraceptives. "Imagine how you would feel if you were in a panic and trying to prevent an unintended pregnancy and this is what you got when you called looking for help. It happens to women in Ohio every day," said Jaime Miracle, author of the study conducted for the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights League of Ohio.
The survey says two of the state's 151 emergency rooms said they provide the high-dosage birth-control pill upon request, regardless of why the patient asks for it. Thirty-one percent said they would give the pill to sexual assault victims while 24 percent, many of them related to the Catholic Church, said they would .
