Tell the Ohio House Health Committee to Vote No on HB 239

Modified: 12/12/2006

The Ohio House Health Committee is currently conducting hearings on House Bill 239. This bill will restrict public hospitals and public employees from being able to perform abortions except when a woman's life is in danger. It also prohibits public employee health insurance policies from covering abortions except when a woman's life is in danger, current law allows public employee health coverage to include coverage for abortions in the cases of rape or incest and if a woman’s life is in danger.

This bill also includes a trigger law that will outlaw coverage of abortions under Medicaid if the federal government removes its requirement that state programs cover abortion services for rape victims.

This bill is dangerous for women's health and targets the most needy women in or state. And unfairly targets victims of rape and incest. Please write to the members of the House Health Committee and tell them that this bill puts women's lives at risk and to vote No when it comes to a vote in committee.
