NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is committed to developing a constituency that uses the democratic process to guarantee every woman the right to choose reproductive options, including family planning, sexuality education, and safe, legal abortion.
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio's Programs
To achieve the mission stated above, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio:
- Builds the grassroots pro-choice movement in Ohio
- Educates the public about reproductive rights issues
- Helps to elect pro-choice legislators and pass pro-choice legislation through candidate training, voter mobilization, and lobbying
Responsibilities
All interns are expected to:
- Supervise and participate in phone banks, mailings, and outreach events
- Work on research and writing projects
- Assist staff with administrative tasks
Additional tasks vary based on the concentration of the internship. However, all interns will engage in activities from each area. See a full list of concentrations below.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates that possess:
- A commitment to reproductive rights and NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio's mission
- Good communication skills and strong analytical and writing skills
- An ability to work well in a cooperative environment
- Willingness to learn, flexibility, and reliability
Time Commitment/Compensation
Internship opportunities are available throughout the year.
- All internships are unpaid, but may be completed for credit
- Interns may work in our Cleveland or our Columbus office
- We expect a minimum commitment of 8 hours /week with some evening and weekend availability
- Start and end dates are flexible

Concentrations
A variety of concentrations are available for interns to target their internships to their interests. These concentrations include:
This internship consists of assisting NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio's development associate in the following tasks:
- Data entry, filing, and office management
- Ensuring our donors receive thank-you notes and receipts
- Working with a committee to plan and carry out NARAL events
- General assistance in fund raising
We would like this intern to be available at least 15 hours a week, over 2 - 3 days. Ideally, this intern candidate will be based out of the Cleveland office.
In this internship, you will:
- Work to inform the public about NARAL's work
- Identify events with progressive audiences and attend to represent NARAL, gain petition signatures, and give out membership information
- Recruit and train volunteers to help with mailings and phonebanks
- Work on our Foundation's newsletter, The Voice of Choice
- Assist in the development and maintenance of pro-choice campus groups
Familiarity with InDesign is preferred. We need this intern candidate to be available some evenings and weekends in order to represent us at events.
This internship consists of assisting NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio's policy director in the following tasks:
- Monitoring legislative activity and drafting action alerts for supporters
- Researching and writing reports on pro- and anti-choice legislation
- Interacting with pro-choice partners on strategies and lobby day planning
- Track media coverage of pro- and anti-choice legislation
Ideally, this intern candidate will be based out of the Columbus office.
